Google Project Tango tablet available for $512

Google is serious about its Virtual Reality ambitions. After announcing a new Jump VR platform in partnership with GoPro, Google also announced an improved version of the Cardboard, allowing bigger smartphones to use it. In addition to that, the company also announced a partnership with Qualcomm to work on a Project Tango smartphone.

Google Project Tango tablet

Prior to all this, Google launched a limited beta testing of its Project Tango tablet, allowing users to create a 3D map of the surroundings in real time. This can be essentially a breakthrough for designers to do tests in real time, on the field instead of in an office on a computer. The Project Tango development kit was launched last year for $1024, but that was expensive enough for hesitant enthusiasts to give it a try. Google has halved the price now to $512, making the tablet available for anyone to buy from the Google Store.

For $512, you get the Project Tango tablet with depth and 3D sensing capabilities, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, a 7 inch 1920 x 1200 pixels display, Wi-Fi and a mini dock. It comes with a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.
