Google announces Jump Virtual Reality platform with Cardboard upgrades
Virtual Reality can be a highly expensive affair, but Google has decided to bring it to the masses. Initially with its Cardboard, Google had come out with a cheap, yet fun way to introduce yourself to the world of Virtual Reality.
Today, at Google I/O 2015, the search giant is venturing into new territories, announcing all kinds of projects. One of the new projects announced is the Jump VR platform, which will be shared with “select creators”. Google is trying to bring people to create, capture and share 3D video on the cheap. The company announced a partnership with GoPro to build the first Jump 3D camera setup. All the created content will be uploaded to and be watchable on YouTube, of course.
Google has also improved its Cardboard. The new Cardboard headset now fits smartphones up to 6 inches in size. It will also work with any 6 inch smartphone now due to the replacement of the magnetic ring with the new top mounted button. I/O attendees will receive these DIY Cardboard kits, which take just 3 steps to assemble.
