Google Announce Fit developer challenge

Google, in partnership with Adidas, Withings, Polar Electro has announced Google Fit Developer Challenge, a contest where individuals/teams can create and submit original or updated Android application that is compatible with Google Fit. The applications that are submitted by participants will be evaluated by judges and winner will be chosen. The last day to submit the application will be 17th of February 2015 and winners will be announced on 23rd of March 2015.

Applications that are added to the Google Play Store, with working Google Fit integration are considered as ‘new applications’ and applications that are either updated with Google Fit integration after November 18th are considered as ‘existing apps’. This challenge is open only in United States, the District of Columbia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Those who participate should not be of minor age (eg: under 18 years in India is considered a minor). Entried applications should be registered in Google Play Store and entrants should be registered as Google Play Developers. PRIZES:

Up to Twelve (12) Grand Prizes: The six (6) new Apps and six (6) updated Apps with the highest scores that have been successfully verified and cleared, as determined by the Sponsor and Challenge Entities in their sole discretion, will be declared Grand Prize Winners and receive the following:

  • Winning Apps will appear in a “Featured” section on the homepage of select Google Play stores (to be determined by Sponsor) for a minimum of one week beginning on or about March 23, 2015; and
  • Winning Apps will be promoted via Sponsor’s and their affiliates consumer and developer promotional channels, including:
    • In the “Featured” section of the Google Play consumer newsletter
    • Google Play’s social accounts (on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook)
    • In a blog post on the official Google blog and the Android developer blog
    • Other channels at the Sponsor’s discretion
  • Two (2) adidas sensors (retail value approximately $140 USD each)
  • Android Wear device (retail value approximately $160 USD)
  • Polar Loop (retail value approximately $109.95 USD)
  • Polar H7 (retail value approximately $79.95 USD)
  • Withings device (retail value approximately $99.95 USD)

Up to One Hundred (100) Second Prizes (50 new Apps and 50 existing Apps):

  • Two (2) adidas sensors (retail value approximately $140 USD each)
  • Android Wear device (retail value approximately $160 USD)
  • Polar Loop (retail value approximately $109.95 USD)
  • Polar H7 (retail value approximately $79.95 USD)
  • Withings device (retail value approximately $99.95 USD)

Up to Two Hundred (200) Third Prizes (100 new Apps and 100 existing Apps):

  • Two (2) adidas sensors (retail value approximately $140 USD each)
  • Android Wear device (retail value approximately $160 USD)

Up to Four Hundred (400) Forth Prizes (200 new Apps and 200 existing Apps):

  • Two (2) adidas sensors (retail value approximately $140 USD each)

App Technical Requirements:

  • App specifications and requirements, instructions, and software development kits for building an Android app exist online at developers.android.com and, for building a Google Fit app, at developers.google.com/fit.
  • App must integrate Google Fit and make use of one or more of the Google Fit APIs.
  • Instructions and requirements for listing an App on the Google Play store exist online at https://play.google.com/apps/publish.
  • App must not violate the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement (https://play.google.com/about/developer-distribution-agreement.html).
  • The App may either be a “new” App or an “updated” App. In either case the App must satisfy the requirements disclosed in these rules. If updates are being made to an existing App for the purpose of Challenge entry, the App must be the property of the Entrant/Entrant Team and/or their respective employer. (NOTE: Entrants/Entrant Teams are not permitted to update an existing app unless the existing app is their original creation.).
  • Apps may not be updated or changed once an Entrant uploads it to the Google Play store until after the App judging period has ended and the winners are announced.
  • App must be available in English and available to Google Play users in the U.S.

ENTRY TERMS: Determination of compliance with entry, technical, and creative requirements and these Official Rules will be in the sole discretion of the Sponsor and designated Judging Panel. By entering, Entrants warrant that Submission:

  1. is the original work of the Entrant/Entrant Team or an update to an original work of the Entrant/Entrant Team;
  2. does not contain any use of names, likenesses, photographs, or other identifying elements in whole or in part, of any person, living or dead, without permission (proof of which must be provided to the Sponsor upon request in a form satisfactory to the Sponsor);
  3. does not infringe or violate the rights of any third party, including but not limited to, copyrights, trademarks, logos, copyrighted material not owned by Entrant (other than Sponsor’s related materials), contract and licensing rights, rights of publicity or privacy, moral rights, or any other intellectual property rights;
  4. is not subject to any third party agreements, and that the Sponsor will not be required to pay or incur any sums to any person or entity as a result of its ownership, acquisition, use or exploitation of the entries or rights therein;
  5. was made with the understanding that any required permits from local authorities or other permissions have been obtained and is documented sufficiently such that Entrant can show proof of such permission upon request from the Sponsor;
  6. does not contain hateful content of any kind (including without limitation racism, sexism, etc.), content which promotes violence or harm to another living creature, or any other offensive, obscene, or inappropriate content, the determination of which shall remain in the sole discretion of the Sponsor;
  7. does not promote any activity that may appear unsafe or dangerous;
  8. does not contain reference to any political agenda or party; and that Entrant/Entrant Team indemnify the Sponsor from and against any cause of action, complaints, or other claims arising out of the breach of any of the foregoing warranties.

APP JUDGING: At the end of the Submission Period, all eligible Submissions will be judged and scored by a judging panel chosen by the Sponsor (“App Judging Panel”). The App Judging Panel will determine the top Submissions in App category (“new” App or “updated” App) who will then be deemed potential winners using the following Judging Criteria:

  • Fitness Innovation (20%)
  • Fun (20%)
  • Ongoing Usefulness (20%)
  • User Improvement (20%)
  • Android UX Design Guidelines (20%)
