First in-theatre gaming championships announced
Gaming championships in huge halls are usual. Imaging a gaming competition in a theatre. Super League Gaming is the worlds first in-theatre video gaming league that will pitch gamers to play on a big movie screen side-by-side. The competition is going to happen at 28 major cities across USA cities with 80+ movie theatre locations (that include Regal Entertainment, AMC, Cinemark). The event starts on 15th of June and will end on 26th of August and will be followed by a six week session on September 14. The league will start with Minecraft gaming session. Minecraft is customized to provide a 3rd person world view that will be projected on to the theatre screen. Minecraft will be played by gamers on their laptops but thanks to a proprietary tech will use Minecraft’s API to merge all players into a single screen.
“Much like a baseball player has their minor or junior league, gamers now have Super League,” says Super League President and COO Brett Morris. “And much like a basketball player has a court, or a soccer player has a field, gamers now have theaters. We’re bringing together gamers to compete and socialize with other like-minded gamers in an exciting setting.”
“There are all kinds of leagues out there, but there’s still a vast group of gamers who don’t have any way of organizing themselves into recreational teams,” says Super League Co-Founder and Chief Visionary John Miller. “We were just a group of dads who saw that void and thought this would be a great way to bring gaming to life. Gamers learn how to cooperate, how to develop their social skills, and work together toward a common goal over a period of time. The core concept of teamwork is still there. We’re just evolving the playing field.”
