Just a few days after Google Duo’s launch, Facebook has now introduced a new feature called ‘Instant Video’ to its Facebook Messenger. The feature is live on the latest version of the app.
Instant Video allows users to share video instantly while you are chatting with someone. The audio is off by default and the recipient can turn in on by clicking on the speaker icon.
As seen in the picture, the video will float on top of your messages. This is one way only and your friends don’t have to send video back to you if they don’t want to.
Instant Video is a reflection of the ubiquity of video — we simply expect to have that ability in real-time, all the time. With Instant Video, you can bring your conversations to life in the most authentic way — seamlessly and instantly. It’s perfect for sharing quick moments with friends who aren’t right by your side or making your conversations richer by seeing each other face-to-face when you are messaging.
Instant Videos will allow users to quickly share a video with their friends without the receiver having to share any video. This is similar to Duo’s preview.
For Instant Video to work, both you and your friend must be using the latest version of Messenger. While both of you are viewing an open Messenger conversation, tap on the video icon in the top right corner to start sharing real-time video.
