CyanogenMod’s screen recording ability demoed by Koush
Many times in the past, we wished we had a screen recording ability on our Android smartphones. As of today, when one creates a video to give a demo of an application or an OS, Screen recording can be achieved only by using a camcorder/camera and take a video of phone or take a series of screenshots and stack them into a post (well, unless we pay for some expensive 3rd party application).
Thanks to this screen recording features that is coming soon to CyanogenMod ROM, we can take a video of activity on the screen without the headache of using an external camera. Screen recording can be activated by pressing ‘Volume up + Power’ keys simultaneously. We can also enable audio to be added to the video via phone’s microphone and enable on-screen graphics to let viewers know where/when you touch the screen. In short, we can create a perfect and immersive demo videos (with screen recording + voice recording + touch sensing). Below youtube video should give you a clear idea on how screen recording works.
Note: This works only in CyanogenMod (not built into existing CM ROMs yet).
Code for screen recording feature is already uploaded for code review and you can find the same here
