Comio X1 Note – Meets expectations – Review
Comio is relatively a new brand in India. It is a brand from TopWise Communications who is a device manufacturer. Comio has been launching a host of mobile models in India and they have introduced the Comio X1 Note. This mobile is priced at just under Rs 10k in India. It is an aggressively priced mobile, but then the 10k segment is one of the fiercest segment of mobiles in India. Geared to face the competition, X1 Note has Face-unlock, full vision display, dual camera and a shiny design. Let us check out if this mobile is worth the price tag.

Design
Comio X1 note has a shiny plastic body with a metallic finish. The camera arrangement at the back resembles a Moto mobile and the concentric circles, remind Asus mobiles. Yet, this mobile looks a lot more stylish than any of its competitor in this segment. The glossy back is prone to scratches and fingerprint smudges. The device is light and it is comfortable to hold and handle. It has a micro USB port at the bottom and 3.5mm jack on the top. It has a 3 card tray, which can take in 2 SIMs and an SD card simultaneously. The fingerprint sensor is at the back and the 6-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display has relatively thicker bezels, which is more obvious in the white color frame of the gold color variant I have. But nevertheless, this is a stylish mobile and a head turner for sure.
Display
The mobile has a 6-inch full HD+ display. The display aspect ratio is 18:9. It is a bright display and the colors are vivid. Sunlight readability is good and it also has good viewing angles. The bezels on the sides are fairly thin, but the top and bottom chin are prominently pronounced. This makes the mobile look taller than what it is actually. Also, it is a welcome feature that this display is a full HD+ 1080p resolution screen. Overall, I have nothing to complain about that display performance on the Comio X1 Note.
Camera
Comio X1 Note has a 13 MP + 5 MP dual camera setup at the back. The images out of these cameras have the right level of exposure and contrast. The colors are natural but it struggles to focus at times. When there is ample light, the images are pleasant, but the low light shots have noise and do not impress. The 8 MP front camera is assisted by a flash on the front. It can click good selfies when there is good light and under low light, the story is the same. Considering the price segment, the camera performance is on par with most of the mobiles in this price bracket. Redmi Y2 is one mobile that has better camera performance amongst all the mobiles in this price segment.
The dual camera can create some very good portrait shots. The edge detection and background blurring ability works good most of the times. The color tones on the skin is what makes the portrait shots very attractive. Check out a few camera samples below.
Performance
As a popular choice, Comio must have gone with a Snapdragon processor, but the X1 note is powered by a MediaTek MT8735A processor with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The memory can also be expanded up to 128 GB with the dedicated SD card slot. The mobile runs on Android 8.0 with a few customized UI interactions bundled and named the ComioUI. 3 GB RAM is good enough for basic multitasking, but the processor is a bit underpowered to handle heavy games. This being a budget segment mobile, basic apps and games would not have any issues on the X1 Note.
The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate. Face unlock also works well, but it is slightly slower than the other mobiles in this segment, like the Redmi Y2. The mono speakers are of average quality but overall, the Comio X1 Note would meet the expectations of any user in the budget segment, in terms of hardware specifications.
Battery
Comio X1 Note has just 2900 mAh battery. MediaTek processors are not known for their power efficiency and this mobile has a full HD display. All this contributes to less than a day of battery life on the Comio X1 Note. But the good news is that it has a 10 W fast charger included in the box. This charger can charge the mobile from 0 to 100% in less than 2 hours.
Verdict
The choice is plenty on this price segment. We have the Redmi Y2 which is an all-around performer in the price range. But Comio X1 Note is a better mobile than the Honor 7A and 7C or even the Moto E5. It has a stylish design and a decent camera performance. The ComioUI is neat and bloatware free. The choice is difficult, but I will make it easy for you. If you like MIUI and like to click a lot of selfies, the Redmi Y2 is a good mobile. But if you need a stylish mobile with overall better camera performance, the Comio X1 Note is a good choice for the offline mobile buyers.
