BuzzFeed News App Now Available on Google Play
BuzzFeed has launched the official BuzzFeed News app on Google Play. The app launched on iOS in June, and provides users with a list of stories and content from BuzzFeed and other news outlets, which are focused on current major topics. The app has not strayed too far from Google’s Material Design elements, bringing a sliding tab design design, floating action button for notifications, as well as a card-like look for each separate story on the landing page.
In a blog post, Stacy-Marie Ishmael, managing editor of mobile news at BuzzFeed, commented:
We built BuzzFeed News for Android to be faithful to the core tenets of Material Design, Google’s recommended principles for apps on its platform, and to be wicked fast for our audiences no matter how EDGE-y their data connections. This is just our opening gambit—there’s even more to come.
The BuzzFeed News app is now available to download for free on Google Play. To date, the app has been downloaded more than 350,000 times on iOS. Ishmael said more than half of BuzzFeed News’ 25 million monthly visitors ‘are on some kind of mobile device.’
