Bluray disc association announce UltraHD Bluray specification
Blu-ray Disc association has announced today that they have finished finalizing the specification for Ultra HD Blu-Ray (4K resolution) discs and the new logo is as shown here in this post. This will open a new chapter in home cinema experience where UltraHD TV owners can play true Ultra HD content from bluray . We do hope that we will soon see release of Bluray players with 4K resolution playback support.
“For years, Blu-ray Disc has set the standard for high definition picture and audio quality in the home. Ultra HD Blu-ray will do the same for UHD home entertainment,” said Victor Matsuda, chair, BDA Promotions Committee. “The technical capabilities of Blu-ray Disc, in particular its significant storage capacity and high data transfer rates, will enable the delivery of an unparalleled, consistent and repeatable UHD experience.”
It is not just the number of pixel that is increased in the new specification. The color rage is expanded, high frame rate content can be played and allows delivery of HDR. Through the new spec, next generation audio format support can be added.
