Blackberry announces Z3 and Q20 smartphones running BB OS 10

It has been a while since we had a full line up of Blackberry phones. Today, Blackberry has moved one step closer to having a full range of smartphones running Blackberry OS. Blackberry Z3 is a full touch midrange smartphone while Q20 is the traditional Blackberry smartphone with a 3.5″ touchscreen display, qwerty keypad and hard keys layout. Z3 is going to be released in Indonesia and it may take some time for this phone to be released in other countries. Q20 on the other hand is only a paper launch. There are no images of the phone, there are not demos at MWC. We do hope that BB brings this phone out soon.

Blackberry Z3

Build wise, the Z3 looks is a solidly built smartphone and looks gorgeous. Z3 comes with a 5″ display with not so ideal resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Powered by dual core Snapdragon 400 processor, there is 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. In case users need to add more storage, Blackberry has included a microSD card slot. There is a 5mp rear facing camera and a 1.1mp front facing camera. Rest of the specs are fairly ordinary (USB 2.0, FM radio, bluetooth etc). We dont have much detail on other specification and we will update you once we have the detail. BB Z3, like other BB OS 10 devices, connects to Blackberry hub and BBM

“We are excited to introduce the new BlackBerry Z3, the first smartphone to emerge from our strategic partnership with Foxconn, which was announced in mid-December, 2013. The BlackBerry Z3 embodies all that BlackBerry 10 offers, with its exceptional productivity features and reliable communications, in a stylish, all-touch design made affordable for customers in Indonesia.”, said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry

Blackberry Q20

Q20 is going to get the fans of traditional Blackberry phones jump in joy as Blackberry is going to bring back good old ‘Menu’, ‘Back’, ‘Send’ and ‘End’ buttons and the famous Blackberry trackpad. The keypad will be the patented design with frets and sculpted keys. Q20 will be compatible with BlackBerry Hub and BES 10. This is going to be a premium smartphone as Blackberry is going to build the phone using premium materials and will be designed with reliability and durability in mind.

In my first 90 days on the job, I consistently heard from our ardent BlackBerry customers that the hard buttons and trackpad are an essential part of the BlackBerry QWERTY experience, that made their BlackBerry smartphone their go-to productivity tool. I want these customers to know that we heard them, and this new smartphone will be for them. Today, we’re delighted to announce the new BlackBerry Q20 smartphone, which is designed to give you the distinct experience that every BlackBerry QWERTY loyalist and high-productivity business customer absolutely loves. With the BlackBerry Q20 smartphone, you’ll get the familiar hard buttons and trackpad that you want, along with the best email service, the best keyboard experience and the best battery life possible,“ said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry.
