Apple iPhone XR : You should avoid this model
Apple iPhone XR, the third model in Apple’s 2018 lineup of phones comes with $749 price tag and will probably cost around 75,000/- rupees. Even with the iPhone X design and new faster chipset, I feel that this phone is not worth the price tag. Here are few reasons why.
Inferior Display
Yes, the Apple iPhone XR has display design similar to the iPhone XS and XS Max phones. There is a catch though. The AMOLED display on iPhone X, XS and XS Max is absolutely brilliant and the only phone that matches these is the Galaxy Note 9. The iPhone XR though comes with IPS panel with far lower resolution. The 5.8″ XS comes with 2436 x 1125 pixel resolution, 6.1″ XR comes with 1792 x 828 pixel resolution. The XS supports HDR, the XR does not. If you take a FullHD video on XR, you cannot see it in fully glory as the phone display does not support FullHD resolution.
Inferior Build Quality
The Apple iPhone XR comes with aluminum body instead of steel body that X,XS,XS Max come with. Steel body is far more stronger and it looks better too. A major difference is that the iPhone XR comes with IP67 water and dust resistance while other X series phones come with IP68 water and dust resistance. IP67 rating allows phone to be immersed in up to a metre of water for maximum of 30 minutes while IP68 allows phone to be immersed in up to 2 metres of water.
Inferior Camera
Apple iPhone XR comes with single lens back camera that resides on software processing to create bokeh effect. While Google mastered this technique, we have to wait and see how Apple’s post processing algorithms are.
Overpriced
If early news is true, The iPhone XR will be priced at 76,000/- for 64GB variant. That is lot of money for a phone like XR. Every Android phone costs less than that and phones like Pixel 2 XL, Note 9 does lot more and are lot better.
No 3D Touch
3D Touch, first introduced in iPhone 6S, allows quick actions, peek and pop, when you press harder. 3D touch senses how deeply users press the display, letting them do more than ever with your apps and games. This technology is not available for iPhone XR. If you have used 3D Touch, you would know how much value it adds to touch experience in iOS.
