Apple and Lenovo lead Laptopmag’s top laptop brands for 2013, Sony hit rock bottom
Apple kept its place at the top of the laptop brands for the year 2013 while Toshiba move away from the bottom (in 2012 to 7th place). Sony, thanks to its overpriced models and lack of serious innovation, took the bottom place among 9 laptop brands that were tested (Apple, Lenovo, ASUS, HP, Dell, Samsung, Toshiba, Acer and Sony being the order for the time period January 2013 to January 2014).
The tests were categorized into Reviews (20points), Tech Support (20 points), Design (15 points), Keyboard/touchpads (15 points), display/audio (10 points), innovation (10 points), value/selection (5 points), software (5 points) with a total of 100 points. Toshiba was the best when it came to year over year improvement as they jumped from paltry 56 points to 68 points this year. Apple, at the top remained the same, Dell had second largest gain with 10 point increase, thanks to its better lineup, tech support and innovation.
The surprise here is that Lenovo lost one point and if the trend continues in 2014, Lenovo might fall to 5th or 6th place as ASUS, HP and Dell are improving a lot and trying their best to get back to the top.
