Apple AirPower cancelled after two years

Few days ago there was hope that AirPower is coming out soon when product references were made in recent beta. But suddenly, out of the blue, Apple announces that it is officially dead.

Apparently, there were heating issues and Apple was not able to get the product quality right. The overheating issue applied to devices placed on the mat as well and could result in long term damage to those products. We feel that Apple announced the product way too early and that is one of the many mistakes that Apple has been committing recently.

“After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,” said Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering in an emailed statement today.
