Android tops mobile advertising and traffic in Q1 2015
Android has been witnessing explosive growth throughout the world for a while now. The free and open source operating system from Google has displaced giants like Nokia and almost every OEM out there uses it. However, for a long time, Google’s operating system has been beaten by Apple’s iOS in terms of advertising review and mobile traffic.
That has changed now. According to The State of Mobile Advertising Report from Opera Mediaworks, Android has beaten Apple’s iOS for the first time ever in terms of mobile traffic and advertising revenue. Although iOS still has a way better traffic to revenue ratio, the sheer volume of Google’s platform spread has ensured that it takes the lead in both traffic and revenue generated.
Android has a 42.83 percentage points lead over iOS in terms of the traffic share, with iOS’s total traffic share being nearly one third of that of Android’s. In terms of revenue, Android sneaks past iOS with a small 0.33 percentage points lead. For every percentage point of traffic, Android makes just 0.7 percentage points revenue. On the contrary, for every percentage point of traffic, iOS makes more than 2 percentage points of review.
