Acer announce Switch 10 and Switch 10 E 2-in-1 WIndows notebooks
Today, Acer has announced addition of two new 10.1” models to its Switch 10 series of 2-in-1 notebooks. The new models, Switch 10 E (SW3-013) and Switch 10 (SW5-015) are powered by Intel Atom quad core processors and come with Windows 8.1 operating system and Office 365 pre-loaded. Switch 10 E will be available for sale from mid-July with starting price of $279 while Switch 10 will be available from August with starting price of $399. Acer has also announced bigger Switch 11 with 11.6” display and this model will be available in EMEA from June with starting price of €449.
“We’re excited to announce the expansion of our popular 2-in-1 notebook line with models offering more processing power and stylish new aesthetics,” said Jerry Kao, president of Acer Notebook Business Group. “This flexible and practical platform is ideal for taking notes in a classroom, working on a plane or playing games while watching TV on a sofa.”
Both new Switch 10 tablets come with magnetic detachable design for latch-free docking and can be used in four different modes (notebook, tablet, tent, display modes). Both are powered by Intel Atom quad core processor and come with 2GB DDR3L RAM. The display is an IPS panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Acer has implemented LumiFlex™ that adjusts brightness and contrast based on external light to optimize the visibility.
The keyboard is chiklet style which is in line with premium and midrange notebooks. The precision touchpad supports six gestures and can differentiate between intentional and accidental touches. There are two front facing speakers to deliver clean audio.
There is 64GB of onboard storage and the detachable keyboard dock can be coupled with (upto) 1TB hard drive. Acer BYOC gives users easy access to their data from anywhere and offers real time data management and data security across multiple devices.
Coming to ports, there are two USB 2.0 ports (one is full size USB and the other is microUSB), a microHDMI port.
Switch 10 E
Switch 10 E comes with Acer Snap Hinge™ 2 that gives users smooth switching between the four usage modes (mentioned earlier in the post). There is a 2mp front at the front and at the rear. The display is a 1280×800 resolution HD display and supports 10-point multi touch. The built in 30Wh battery can keep the device up and running for upto 12 hours on a single full charge. Switch 10 E will be available in six colors. Coming to dimension, Swith 10 E is 10.31– x 7.09- x .43-inches in size and weighs only 1.39 pounds (630 grams) in tablet mode. When attached to the accompanying keyboard with an optional hard drive, it measures 10.31- x 7.09- x 1.01-inches and weighs 1.28 kilograms.
Switch 10
Switch 10 on the other hand comes with a FullHD 1080p display and employs Zero Air Gap technology that makes the content look exceptionally better. Users can buy the optional Acer Active Pen for this model (supports passive and active pen input).
The built in 22Whr battery can provide upto 7 hours of video playback. There is a 2mp front facing camera. As a tablet, it measures only 10.29- x 6.97- x .35-inches (261.6- x 177.1- x 8.9- millimeters) and weighs just 1.31 pounds (0.6 kilograms). In notebook mode, it measures 10.29- x 6.97- x .93-inches (261.6- x 177.1 x 23.8 millimeters) and weighs 2.64 pounds (1.21 kilograms) with the keyboard dock that includes an optional hard drive.
