13 year old app developer creates app to unlock your mac using TouchID

Gone are those days when one has to have a degree to excel at programming and design. Gone are those days when kids are meant to play play and play. Tom de Ruiter (14 yrs old), Erik Van Der Plas and Melvin Voetberg (15 yrs old) are part of the new generation that can create magic at a young age. This week, these three brilliant kids from Holland created KeyTouch, an application that will unlock a mac (with Bluetooth support) using the TouchID on your iOS device. Whenever you need to unlock your mac or provide your password (install app, open settings etc), you can use the TouchID on your phone and let the app take care of the prompt/unlock.

If you scan your fingerprint when your Mac is locked, your Mac will unlock. If you scan your fingerprint when you have a password prompt open, your Mac will unlock thepassword prompt. If you scan your fingerprint when your Mac is unlocked, your Mac will lock.

KeyTouch application is approved by Apple (Tom and Erik won WWDC 2014 scholarship). Tom and Melvin are now owners of a company , Rydee that develops applications. The surprising part is that it took just 4 months for them to turn an idea into an application. To make the interaction more secure, the password is never transmitted to the phone. The encrypted password stays in the mac and only necessary data is transmitted from iOS to OS X.

Take a look at the following video to understand how KeyTouch works.
