Most of the time during day or night, we do not want to attend to unwanted calls. These days, we get a huge number of spam messages from vendors (sale, offers etc). Even though you add your number of national DND registry, the spam wont stop. Setting up call and message blocking is one ideal way to make sure that only those who you prefer to contact you (call/sms) at any given point of time can reach out to you. MIUI 8’s blocklist feature is very powerful and can be heavily customized. In this post, we show you how to effectively customize block lists. We have compiled a few guides for Redmi 4A. Head to this page to see the full list of guides. Also, do not miss our “Recommended Smartphones” list that contains best smartphones for every budget.
Go to Security application.
Click on Blocklist. The main page shows list of messages and calls that were blocked. Click on ‘settings’ icon in top right corner of the page.
You have option to block SMS and/or calls from numbers. You can also block all calls/sms from any number that is not in your contact list.
To add a number to block list, click on ‘Blocked numbers’.
You will now see a list of numbers that are blocked (if any). At the bottom, you will see ‘edit’ and ‘add’ using which you can edit existing number or edit. Select a number and select ‘unblock’ to allow messages and calls from that number.
Tap ‘Add’ at the bottom to add a new number/contact to blocklist.
You can create your own set of rules and save them. Having different set of rules for different occasion helps you to switch between block lists without losing time editing.
Here is the list of block settings available when you try to create rules. One best example of having different rules is that you can have one set of rules that allow any calls from favourites when you are in a meeting or in a movie theatre. When you are really really busy and do not want to be disturbed, you can have rules that block everyone except your closest family members from calling or messaging you.
Whatever the state of blocklist is sometimes, you may want to add exceptions as you may get family emergency calls from your family. In such cases, you can add these numbers to ‘exceptions’ list. Any number in this list will not be blocked, whatever rules you set.
For spam protection, you can add keywords so that any messages from unknown senders that contain certain keywords will be blocked automaticallly. For example, if you add keyboard ‘SALE’, it will block any messages (from unknown senders) that contain the word ‘SALE’. This helps a lot in filtering a lot of spam.
